We clear the gutters and downspouts of everything that has built up, blow the roof line clean so it does not wash straight back in, check for standing water or sagging sections, and confirm water is draining the way it is supposed to. It is the kind of check that catches a problem before it turns into a water-damage repair.

We say this from experience: we have been called out mid-storm by homeowners offering to pay almost anything to get their gutters cleared while water pours over the side. One job stands out. A homeowner called us during a downpour because water was seeping into the roofline. When we climbed up, the downspout was packed solid with mud, and roots and vines had grown straight through it. We had to drill it apart, clear it out by hand, flush it with pressure, and put it back together, all in the rain. That is the kind of repair a neglected gutter turns into.
Left alone, a clogged gutter does not just overflow. Water gets forced under the roofline instead of away from it, which slowly rots the wood underneath. And a gutter full of wet debris gets heavy fast, enough to sag or pull away from its hangers entirely. Regular cleaning is cheap insurance against both.
One honest note on gutter guards
We do not install gutters or recommend gutter guards. Guards buy you a little time between cleanings, but the gutters still need to be cleared eventually, and removing and reinstalling the guards to do it usually costs more than just keeping up with regular cleanings in the first place. To each their own, but that is our take.
